Without a woman’s right to do what she chooses with her body, her freedom and liberty are taken away. If for personal reasons, a woman wants an abortion, as is, currently, her constitutional right, she has the freedom to do so. In some states, a woman’s freedom to have an abortion has been severely limited.
Because of this, many women have had abortions by people not medically licensed to perform them. Many of these unlicensed and unqualified people have used unsterile instruments, thus causing illness or death. A child needs to be loved and wanted. A baby whose mother resents his birth, will not receive the proper care and nurturing he deserves. Perhaps, he would be better off not to have been born. For these reasons, I support the Pro-Choice movement.

We all know America as the “land of the free”, as sung daily by many in “The Star Spangled Banner”. Knowing that many women’s autonomy has been taken away, how can we, Americans, who claim to be people of liberty, say the words of “The Star Spangled Banner” in good conscience?
Females have been told what to do with and how to treat their bodies. If the right to self-determination is taken away, what will be decided for us next?
What we can wear? What we can read and what we can say? Possibly even how we can act? This is not the American way! In fact, it is unconstitutional. We must be aware of this lack of freedom and see to it that women receive it. Sadly, there are many people who can not afford to support a child.
There are people who hate themselves and are incapable of loving another. As I see it, it is fortunate, that some women may realize that they are not fit and can not care for a youngster. However, an anti-abortion law may not give them any other choice. A mother willing to give up her offspring is likely to resent her own child. This resentment might result in neglect.
I would like to propose a compromise. Let there be a law requiring counseling for someone planning on having an abortion. As such, she would have the opportunity to discuss the impact of her actions. After receiving counseling, she would have the freedom to choose whether or not to have an abortion. A woman who decides to have an abortion, will probably not give up even after being told that she may not have one. She may seek an illegal even dangerous alternative. A compromise, such as counseling, should be considered.
The government of the United States of America must be directed to work together with it’s citizens to ensure justice for all. “We the People” must make certain that our constitutional rights are guaranteed.
Do you think that women should choose what happens to their bodies? If you do, then why is abortion such a big topic? The answer is that women should choose what happens to their bodies no matter what. Would you want to carry a baby that was the result of rape or incest? Personally I find it disgusting, and outrageous!
Research has shown that 1 out of every 2 babies that have been conceived have resulted in abortion in some time during the pregnancy. There are many ways you can have an abortion. One is suction, where a doctor will “suck” the baby, and everything else out, so the baby would die.
A saline solution injected into the abdomen into the baby and burns the baby’s skin. Then the mother would go into labor, and the dead, burnt baby would come out. This procedure only takes about 2 hours, but can only be done after 16 weeks of pregnancy. Other ways are pills, which kill the baby, when the fetus is still young, only a few weeks, and give the woman her period.
Most people think it costs a lot of money to get an abortion done. “It cost me about $150, total. And my parents didn’t even find out about it, not until I told them.” Most abortions only cost $150-$300 depending on what you get done, and where you go. Think about it before you just go out and get it done. It is a big choice that is being made in your life. Young or old, abortion is your choice.
Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. Many people believe that women should get to decide what she would do with her body. The definition of abortion is; “The termination of pregnancy by the removal or expulsion from the uterus of a fetus or embryo prior to being capable of normal growth”. Abortion is one of the most controversial topics today.
Although there are two sides of the debate pro-choice and pro-life, arguments are mainly centered around the Roe v. Wade decision, women’s rights, and state restrictive laws. Women faced many difficulties before Roe V. Wade case. After the case, the court made abortions available to women in the United States. Some consider abortions immoral, which is why abortion is a heavy topic.
People believe in misconceptions that are based on skewed facts (Abortion ProCon). They believe it is a problem that must be stopped but stopping one problem will cause bigger problems such as deaths from illegal abortion, women, and children dying from starvation.
Making abortions illegal will not stop anything, women might go back to getting unsafe and illegal abortion resulting in many deaths. Pro-choice believers support the right to privacy and the idea women should have the choice to do what she pleases with her own body.
Example # 4
Power is an important force within the world of public policy, as change in power results in a change of perspective and policy. Abortion policy exemplifies the role of power in the policy process; abortion policy has been shifting throughout American history as American views have simultaneously transitioned from more conservative to more liberal.
Doctors, specifically regular physicians, have guided the discussion surrounding abortion in the most influential way for the longest time. Their power, in particular, their medical expertise, has allowed them to take hold of the issue and push against abortion from a medical stance.
As a result of the change from traditional views to more contemporary ones, the power the doctors held was taken by women, and abortion simultaneously became not an issue of health, but one regarding a woman’s right to choose: pro-life and pro-choice.
In America, abortion policy has transitioned from an issue of health and morality to one of the women’s rights over time due to the power shifting from doctors to women as a result of modernization and the change in how Americans saw religion; this shift, in turn, impacting how the abortion issue’s sides are defined and how the issue is argued in the realm of public policy.
Orthodox views and traditional customs made up nineteenth-century America, abortion being among the least controversial issues of the time. Abortion, seen as abnormal and taboo, was a quiet issue and not talked about.
Example # 5
At present, it is evident that the topic that elicits endless and hot debates is the topic of abortion. As a result, there are two groups, pro-choice movement, and pro-life movement supporting and opposing abortion respectively. Although there are various definitions for abortion, I will define abortion as a safe medical procedure aimed at early termination of pregnancy (Thomson 6).
Statistics show that more and more women are carrying out abortion; in those countries where it is not legalized, women are forced to hide the fact of abortion (Boonin 92). They are compelled to do it in hospitals that do not have qualified personnel and necessary equipment. This ultimately results in serious health complications.
Based on the arguments of Mills who brought forth the concept of utilitarianism and the greatest good for the greatest number of people, abortion should be considered to be right in certain circumstances. For instance, if a woman from a given community is raped and gets pregnant, it is worth noting that the woman and the unborn child will be called names and scolded; this ultimately depicts a bad picture of that society (Boonin 34).
Since there is no one who wishes to be called bad names, it would be rational to support abortion in this case since it will bring happiness not only to the woman but also the entire community. It has been shown that women who get pregnant from illegal acts such as rape, incest more often than not undergo serious psychological harm as compared to their victims particularly when they continue carrying the pregnancy and later in life when the child is born (Thomson 17).
The question arises whether a woman should give birth when indeed she is living in extreme poverty. In my humble opinion, a decision to medically terminate the pregnancy is a lesser evil compared to bringing the child into this world where he or she will not be provided with enough food, clothing, education, parental care, and medical care.
This can be exemplified by happening in developing countries where there is an increasing number of street children and street families. This could not be the case if these women had the option of legally terminating the pregnancy (Thomson 22).
On the same line of reasoning, ethics, and laws of the land advocate for personal freedom and privacy. This is where an individual is allowed to decide the course of his or her life. This is very important in terms of human civil rights. For this reason, a pregnant woman is the one who knows what is happening in her body. If she concludes that she is not capable of bearing the stresses associated with pregnancy, then she needs to have a choice of either carrying the pregnancy or terminating it. When the law does not allow her to procure an abortion this amounts to serious violation of her right to basic freedom (Boonin 23).
Example # 6 – interesting ideas
You begin by saying that Roe v Wade is a Conservative decision that recognizes one of the most basic of rights that we as Americans hold dear: The right to have the privacy of our own bodies free from the interference of an intrusive government
The horribly misnamed pro-lifers tell us that the intentional destruction of any group of post-conception fertilized human cells is an act of murder in the first degree. You use that horribly misguided concept to re-enforce your point about privacy
If indeed the intentional destruction of any group of post-conception fertilized human cells is an act of murder in the first degree then how does the State go about prosecuting those who commit that crime?
The law would have to require that all women who are experiencing heavy vaginal bleeding go to a hospital where a physician with a law enforcement officer watches will rule out a self-induced abortion as the primary cause of the vaginal bleeding. No exceptions granted
I cannot think of any American woman who tolerates the government violating the privacy of her own body in that manner. You then go from privacy to slavery. If the State forces a young woman to bear and then raise a child that she doesn’t want and/or can’t care for then in effect the State is placing that young woman in a condition of involuntary servitude-aka slavery -to that child
Historically fundamental Christians have always been fond of using public embarrassment as a way to punish the sinners and forcing a young woman to carry, bear, and raise a child that she doesn’t want just dovetails perfectly with that most basic of fundamentalist punishment principles.
Do you consider something with a beating heart a living creature? A baby heart forms and starts beating in the fifth week of pregnancy; therefore, that would make abortion murder. The baby that is growing inside of the woman is depending on her, so when she makes the choice to end that baby’s life, they are making the choice to murder another person.
Someone that believes in the pro-choice theory would say that the decision is up to the woman, but the person with the pro-life theory would say that it is murder no matter what the situation. Most people consider it murder to kill a baby the day after it is born. Then why would it not be murder to kill it before it is born?
There are many abortions performed each year in the United States. Seventy-five percent of all abortions in the U.S. are performed on women over twenty years of age, but the lawmakers try to concentrate on the 186,000 teens that have an abortion each year. In 1990, there were nearly 400 abortion bills were that were introduced to forty-one legislatures. So far, as many as twenty states have passed laws that require a teenager to have a parent’s consent before having an abortion.
This may help reduce the number of abortions each year. The people that passed these bills feel that maybe the parents will feel differently about the situation and be able to talk their child out of it. Twenty percent of teens that are sexually active do not use any form of birth control.
These are the teens that end up getting pregnant and getting an abortion. If these girls would use some kind of contraceptive it could stop a lot of the abortions performed each year. If people think about it, it is so much easier to take a pill then it is to be pregnant and have to decide on the life of another person. When someone feels that they are responsible enough to participate in sexual activity, they should also feel that they are responsible enough to deal with the consequences that follow.
Abortions are often considered “the easy was out.” I feel that abortions are just selfish. There is no easy way out. I could not imagine living with the guilt of taking another’s life, especially the life of something that I created, and that is dependent on me.
There are so many people out there that wish they had the chance to get pregnant. If they really feel that you are not ready to be a parent then the person could at least give the baby up for adoption, and make their life, that baby’s life, and the family adopting the babies’ life a lot happier.
Many of the people that have abortions take advantage of it and use abortion as a form of birth control. I can understand that having a baby might ruin someone’s life, or so they think, but what about the life that you are ruining when they have an abortion.
In a way, it is taking away a piece of them, a piece of them that they will never be able to get back. What if the baby that they killed could have grown up to be the president of the United States, or discovered a cure for a disease that they might have when there are older? There are so many things that need to be considered.
The procedure of abortion is very gruesome. Have you ever seen the results of abortion? It is scary. Maybe if the results of abortion were more widely discussed then it might change the way people think and feel about the topic. Maybe if people really knew what happens to their baby, they would consider it murder too. Just think that of all the lives people could change if they were more conscious about their actions.
Abortion on demand is basically fornication management. It isn’t really pro-choice because the baby is given no choice, the husband has no choice and the baby is treated similarly to blacks in slavery as a legal nonperson.
Most studies show high incidents of breast cancer with women who have abortions as well as severe depression. It is not in the health interest of women except in extreme cases like tubal pregnancy The younger the woman having the abortion generally the higher the risk of breast cancer.
Originally the justification was in the first trimester a baby was not viable to live if delivered. The age of viability has decreased markedly and yet we extended the abortion to the full nine months for any reason and paid for by the government as part of a politically correct death.
It is a mistake Barack Obama extended the abortion concept to include letting babies die who have survived an abortion. That is horrific it is so horific he rewrote history and denied he fought for that in the Illinois senate but he did. Unborn babies play in the womb, react to music, they have many memories carried over into post-birth. They developed fairly gradually and it would be wise to protect them earlier rather than later.
Ultrasounds show a look of terror on babies when attacked by an abortion doctor and killed and in good conscience, I cannot support abortion on demand.
On the deepest level. A baby is in the image of man. Man is in the image of God. Murder is said in Genesis to be wrong because it is a form of disrespect to the image of God. It is a form of trampling God’s glory. It is a sin.
