My first day at college was so fantastic that I have never met before. I used to think about the class in college which is different from in high school. The most thing that I was wondering is about the course study to get the credit which makes me blank and the assignment too.
I did not use to change from high school to college that why I was a little scared when I went into the building, and I saw so many students that I did not know. I was surprised that we have class all day and there are around 150 students in one lecture class. I went to my first class really early so that I could get a seat close to the teacher to record the class and meet my classmate. Fortunately, there were some students that I knew from high school.

Therefore, the class is not so scary anymore and everything is seemed to be better than before. Now is one another thing, I did not realize that college’s student could wear whatever they want; it doesn’t matter with the uniform. But except one, is about your ID card, you have to put it on whenever you are in college, if you don’t, you won’t be allowed to have the class, so it totally different to compare to high school.
Related to this, the college contains only two sections for one morning, each section lasts two hours. And we have fifteen minutes for having the break time. After that, I went to my next class. As I was walking, I tried to make new friends with the other students. The morning class is finished; I stayed at college and had lunch with my classmates. We had a lot of things to talk about. Most of my classmates are from the other provinces in Cambodia.
After lunch, we went to the library for finding some documents. One o’clock in the afternoon, the class started again, so now it is easier for us to share some ideas for our lesson which is so complicated because we already had known each other.
One whole day of my first in college was so wonderful. I had known a lot of good friends; they are so good at studying. I think college is going to be a great experience; I will learn and get a lot of knowledge from this wonderful land. I hope this knowledge is going to help in my future.
Colleges are places where pebbles are polished and diamonds are dimmed.
After I passed my school examination with good grades I got into a high ranked college in my city. I had heard a lot of stories about college life from my elder sibling and relatives. According to the college is not as strict as a school. I was full of excitement, inner joy, and high hopes for a promising future. I thought college life would be full of pleasures. After a bad experience of strict discipline at school, I wanted to have a sigh of relief among pleasures of college life.
I had already come to know about the frank environment of college. The students play tricks and crack jokes with one another. The lectures had group discussions and research on a topic instead of preparing notes. Besides, there are greater opportunities for extra-curricular activities to search for talent. Briefly, it was the charming side of college that I imagined.
Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself.
Thinking about this when I entered college, I came across a different world then I imagined. The worthy teachers and other staff members were welcoming the newcomers and guiding them to the assembly hall of the college. We were told that on the first day, there would not be any classes for the newcomers but the welcome address of the principal. Only the newly admitted students were invited to the address and the senior had classes. It was good news for us.
The hall was decorated with pictures of our historical persons, previous principals, and some shining stars of the college. There were 1100 students seated. At 10 O’clock, the principal entered the hall. Then, the worthy professors also took their respective seats.
The principal was an aged but healthy man. His face showed strong determination. His strong voice echoed “Assalam-o-Alaikum” in the hall – this marks the beginning of the welcome address.
The principal started explaining the reality and the importance of college experience. His arguments were good and strong. With the help of data, the principal proved that a greater number of college students spoil their lives. He said, “Life is not a bed of roses.
You are supposed to work hard”. He was very inspiring and motivating. He told us that college provides the opportunity to choose what you want to become in the future. College is the place where you will get to know yourself and your potential. It is where you will decide where your future resides.
The Principal changed my concept of pleasures. He explained that pleasure is a small corner in the big room of hard work. “Pleasures refreshes you for hard work and not vice versa”. He surprised me, “If you spoil yourself, you spoil the future of the country”. He told us that college means greater discipline and a sense of responsibility.
The principal’s speech had come to an end but it had transformed my life as I transitioned from a school student to a college student. We were entertained with juice and snacks. While eating, I was thinking about my mistaken conception about college. I was convinced that the college opportunity should not be spoiled.
There is no substitute for hard work.
In the end, it was the first day at college that changed my perspective of college life; I could have carried away easily with the charms of college life. In just a few moments, I was transformed into a responsible man. I am indebted to the principal for this revolution.
A college education should equip one to entertain three things: a friend, an idea, and oneself.
My first day at college had great meaning for me. It was the beginning of my dream to go to college and to pursue higher education. I had so many emotions running through me, it was the first time being at this level, and the first time paying for education myself. I always wanted to be a college student, a serious student who would decide what to be in her life.
The first day at Truman College was on August 25th, 2005. The first year of my freshman year and Fall semester. That day I had so many things on my mind, from what I was going to wear to figure out where the class number and the floor it would be located at. It was actually a day full of new experiences. I had just turned 28 years old. By the time I had a full-time job in…
I never took a class like this before, and it was a totally different system than a traditional class that I used to attend. I considered that would help me later in the future with other classes. Thus, I loved the idea of taking an English class in this kind of environment, moreover, I was proud to be part of it. In addition, I thought it was a good idea to use laptops in class since I owned one at home, and I was able to relate to the purpose of the class. For instance, I could enter an electronic group-forum from home, so we were able to share ideas and opinions without being in the classroom.
Also, I found very handy to be able to send my homework electronically to my teacher. On the other hand, one of the greatest experiences I had on the first day was, not only being in an interesting English class but being part of a diverse and cultural international class. Well, I call it this way because, to me, it was the first impression.
Although, I always wanted to study abroad and to be an international student, English 100, gave me the opportunity to meet and share experiences with people from other nationalities. Although most of my classmates did not speak Spanish, which is my native language, I was able to communicate in English with them. Moreover, I was interested in learning another language; thus, I met a girl from…
My first day at college is a day that I can never forget in my life. It was a very good, pleasant, funny, and wonderful experience for me. It will remain fresh in my mind for good.
I passed my S.S, Examination, securing very good marks. The Principal of Government College of our city invited applications for admission to the First-Year Class. I applied for admission which was granted to me. The roll numbers were allotted to the students. The teaching work began. I felt pride in being a college student.
On my first day at college, I found the senior students very smart and active. They seemed to be keen to make “first-year fools” of the new students of First-Year Class. They welcomed the newcomers with funny remarks. Most of us became nervous and this fact encouraged the senior students to make fun of us.
When the college bell rang, we entered the classroom. It was my first day at college. It was a new experience for me. It was our English language period. The concerned Lecturer entered the classroom. He began to call the roll. He then introduced himself to us. He told us the rules and regulations of the college. He also threw light on the importance of discipline. He then spoke on the subject of English. In the meantime, the period was over; hence we moved to another classroom.
In short, on that day, all of our teachers spoke about the importance of hard work and full attention to the studies. They advised us to study regularly.
My impression of the first day in college is still fresh in my mind. On that day, I felt pleasure and joy as my ambition to join the college had been fulfilled. I had already visited the college twice in the company of my elder brother. To watch the neat and clean as well as a peaceful atmosphere of the college, I had wished that one day I must join the college after completing my school education. Now that I myself was a student of the college, it appeared to be a wonderful and very charming place. I was experiencing a new experience and a new delight.
To conclude, my first day at college was a very good and nice day. It was a wonderful and interesting experience for me. That day, I was overjoyed because of being a college student. I can say that my first day at college was funny, humorous and interesting and I can never forget it. It will remain fresh in my mind as a good memory.
My first day at college is an important event in my life. To me, it is an unforgettable day. During my school days. I had a glimpse of college life from my elder brothers and sisters. I was most curiously awaiting the day when I would start my college life. I thought that college life would offer me a free life; here restrictions would be few and the threat of teachers would be little. At last, the longed-for day came in.
I was admitted to the Government College of my city. I entered the college premises with new hopes and aspirations. I was glad to see that the college presented a new sight. It was quite different from what I had seen in and around our school. I came across many unknown faces.
I had some very strange experiences on the first day of my college life. I was baffled to see students playing indoor and outdoor games and enjoying radio programs during class-hours. There is no restriction on uniforms. I observed that the students are free in their movements. They can do things according to their choice.
I found all the newly admitted students in high spirits. They were all happy to make friends. I moved around the college. I was very much delighted to see the grand library of the college where I could find books on every subject. The college laboratory excited my interest on the very first day and I got eager to perform experiments there.
I noted down the time-table of my class from the notice board. I attended classes. I found that the method of teaching in college is different from that in school. Each subject is taught by a specialized teacher. Questions are not asked in the classes. Professors do not rebuke the students if they fail to learn their lessons. They simply tell the students to be conscious of their responsibilities. The students find here a homely atmosphere which they lack in school. For this, they feel easy and comfortable here.
I felt a new rhythm of life and returned home with a mixed sense of duty and liberty.
One day, while I was laying peacefully on my bed, my mother came in with a letter from Florida A&M University. I didn’t really want to speculate anything because a few days before I received a letter from another college saying that I wasn’t accepted. Nevertheless, I was still excited when I opened it and even more so when I read that I had been accepted. So without much hesitation, I packed up and headed to Tallahassee.
When I arrived my mother and I took care of registration and a plethora of things you have to manage as a new student. After all the hassles of college registration were completed my mother departed for home and I was left by myself to attend college. What a great feeling! Little did I know what I had on the store for the next day, my first in college.
The time was around 6:30 am, my alarm rang and it suddenly hit me that I’m now in college.
I got out of bed a little earlier than I normally would have to because I knew nothing more than which classes that I was supposed to attend. As I prepare myself for a day of school I noticed my roommate’s door was open. I went asked him a little about the bus situation, he told me that I should just walk in the morning because the bus isn’t that reliable at times. That later turned out to be very true, I have taken the bus to school since I’ve been here at FAMU.
So I began walking to class but as I walked I saw a few people waiting for the bus and I started to question my roommate’s theory about the bus, yet I kept walking toward campus. As I get to campus I’m in complete and utter dismay because I knew what my class schedule was but I didn’t actually know where the classes were. So as I walk pondering on where to go I happen to see a building that says housing. I walk into the building and luckily there was someone there. I look on my schedule and asked where the building was of what I thought was my first class. One of the gentlemen took me outside and showed me the building. I thank him sincerely and went about my way.
I walked all the way to the building and sat down because I noticed that I had a little time before the class started. I just happen to take look at my schedule again and I noticed that the class that I’m actually waiting for is my second class. At this point, I’m very upset with myself because I asked for the wrong class. So I walked reluctantly back to the housing office hoping that they would help me again.
As I walked back I’m thinking to myself “I hope they’re not too busy to help me”. When I get back into the office luckily it was a different person there so I ask them where this building was. She told me but she was very unclear and I wasn’t sure what she was talking about. Her almost exact statement was “It’s near the gym”.
I wasn’t sure if the gym had rooms in it or what. So as I go toward the gym and a guy asks me where a class was, I say with a confused look on my face “I don’t know” so he asked somebody else and they helped him out. At one point it sounded like we had the same class so I followed him. This class was actually in the gym, so I stood there for a while and I overheard somebody saying that it was an aerobics class so I left in search of my class yet again.
Next, I leave that class to find somebody else to help me out a little. I find someone and although he was very vague in giving directions also I managed to find the class. Remarkably I still managed to make it to the class on time.
Finally, I took a seat and the instructor started speaking. I realized that the person who is speaking isn’t even the instructor of that class, she was out that day. So the substitute hands out the syllabus and an overview of chapter one. All in all, I’d say I spent 15 minutes in that class. Thinking back, I had spent more than 15 minutes just searching for the class. As I walked toward my other class I realize that my two trips to housing were actually a good thing, because I already knew where this class was.
In this class, I had a very interesting teacher. He was a very loquacious man and said he didn’t write anything down on the board nor did he repeat anything, so you had to get it right the first time. After about 45 minutes of that, it was time for me to go home. So walked back to my room and took a well-deserved nap. That concluded my first day at FAMU.
Overall this university is a great place to further your education although, like any other institution of higher learning, it does have its faults. My first day was filled with confusion and challenges but I managed to get through it as will any other first-day student. Generally, I think this will be a great experience for me and ultimately it will help me in pursuit of my career dreams.
Example #7 – Interesting ideas

but after the first day, u will get used to it…
I’ll be starting community college on the 29th. All I can say is, it won’t be such a huge change from High School, except classes aren’t free unless you get a scholarship, you have to study 3 times harder or more depending on your schedule (full time or part-time), and teachers won’t be on your a-s-s about doing assignments and studying. You’re independent in college.
And community college usually has a wide range of ages attending. You could have a few 50-year-olds or 30-year-olds in your class with you.
And making friends and having a friendly conversation with your classmates is up to you. You don’t have to interact with anyone outside of group projects. I suggest you do it, so you can have a good study buddy.
Don’t stress too much and do what you have to do in order to get an A in your class.
It’s okay to be early for class. It doesn’t matter how early. If there is a class in session when you get there, go to the library or wait outside on a bench, study your notes.
The library is just a place to study, do research, use the computer, I’m sure you will need a school ID to use computers.
