I interviewed a man names Sho Nakazawa, who came into Mid Pacific Institute last year. I usually talk with him in the class, but I did not really know about his life before. Now, since I interviewed him, and I knew a lot of interesting things in his life. There are three things to follow about Sho that are his profile, education, and hobby. First, there is talking about his profile and upbringing.
Sho Nakazawa is a man who born March 23, 1993. He born in Akita, but he probably grew up in Tokyo. He has a little sister who is already 16 years old. His education was regular. He grew up in Yotsuya kindergarten and Yotsuya six elementary schools. He took the test and luckily he passed his test and went to school names Nichidai Buzan middle school. While he was in Buzan high school, somehow he would like to go to school in the United States.
The most major thing that he decided to come to Hawaii was because Sara, who is in our class, is his childhood friend and she went into the school in Hawaii. Sara told Sho that she has a great time in Hawaii, and he decided to come to Hawaii.
However, it was hard to come into the school in Hawaii with his regular grades, so he went to the school called Hawaiian Mission Academy. He learned English there for 2 years, and his time passed. However, Hawaiian Mission Academy was not entirely satisfactory for him to learn English, so he considered went into the school that Sara goes to, which he goes right now Mid Pacific Institute. Second, there is the major event of his life. Most of his life is spent on horse racing.
He started going to a game center to do a coin game in Japan when he was in elementary school, and he deeply interested in horse racing because of it. However, there was no way to go to see horse racing by himself because of his age, so he kept going to do coin games and learned how it is interesting.
Example #2 – Introducing a Friend of a Different Culture
Nowadays, Hong Kong society becomes more and more diversity, you can see many different nation people in the street. Most of them come from the Middle East. In IVE (HW), there are many foreign students. To understand their culture, I have joined the Immix Buddy group this year. Therefore, I meet Jeff.
Jeff is a Pakistani and 20 years old. When he was 12, his family decide to go to Hong Kong for better living. Now, he studies in a diploma course at IVE (HW). Although he living in Hong Kong for 8 years, he just knows a little bit Cantonese, we also communicate in English. It’s hard to communicate with him because he speaks English very fast and has a Pakistani accent. I often misunderstand what he said, but he can know what I’m said, it’s a strange phenomenon.
It’s hard for Jeff eating at outside because Jeff’s family is Muslim. Muslims can not eat pork and their meat must slaughter in a particular way, they need to recite the Koran when in the slaughter of animals. They must eat halal food. The word halal means permitted or lawful. Halal foods are foods that are allowed under Islamic dietary guidelines. According to these guidelines gathered from the Koran, Muslim followers cannot consume the following:
- Pork or pork by-product.
- Animals that were that prior to slaughtering.
- Animals not slaughtered properly or not slaughtered in the name of Allah.
- Blood or blood by-products.
- Alcohol. Therefore, Jeff must go to a particular restaurant.
If Jeff eating in-home, wheat and other flour products are the mainstays of the diet. Jeff and his families eat paratha in the morning. Paratha is making by whole wheat flour. Sometime they will add extra zing to paratha by sprinkling them with spices like thymol and cumin seeds and dry red chili flakes. It tastes crispy and flaky and goes well with curry or dry stir-fry.
