Being honest has many benefits. The Bible, states many times that ‘honest people are blessed’ for example Psalm 112. The Bible also states that ‘when a man is honest he will receive love and kindness’

(Psalm 112). The wicked will not like the honest and will hate and try to destroy them. But the word of the Lord has promised, ‘The wishes of the wicked will come to nothing’ (Psalm 112: 10). The Bible also points out that when you choose to tell the truth, the Lord is pleased (Psalm 112).

Also if telling that truth causes a change in your plans for having some fun God will provide you with another safer opportunity to enjoy yourself (Genesis 26: 1-11). God wants us to tell the truth for our own benefit, so we don’t get hurt. Sometimes telling a lie can hurt someone more than we imagine. The Bible makes it clear, that ‘people who tell the truth will be respected, and will please both God and people’ (Proverbs 3: 3-4).

A lie is a lie. Many times we try to tell ourselves that some things aren’t true. We tell ourselves that spreading rumors doesn’t matter, or that there’s no harm in shoplifting. When we believe these lies, we’re only deceiving ourselves (Leviticus 19: 16-17). In James 3: 1-12, it is pointed out that you can not tell the truth and lie at the same time. The Bible points out that a half-truth is a lie.

A lie is slow to heal. When we lie and somebody finds out, we lose our dignity the respect of a lot of people. It is much easier to lose the respect of others than to repair a broken trust or friendship. When we trust someone with something, and they go and tell a different version and start spreading rumors about us we lose faith in them and become very wary not to tell them anything important.

Once again if they had told the truth, the friendship wouldn’t have been damaged. Although we may forgive them, we still take a long time to come to trust them again. In Jeremiah 23, the Lord says that he will punish false prophets. The Lord hates rumor mongers.

Surely sometimes it’s all right to lie. What if you are doing something in secret, for example, a surprise party and someone asks you what it is? There is no need to lie you can simply tell them that ‘you are unable to tell them as it is confidential’. Some of you will be asking, ‘What if it’s a matter of life and death, that is, to lie and live, or to tell the truth and die.

When in this situation, tell the truth and God will provide (Proverbs 3: 5-6). It may not be easy but stop and think. Is telling a lie and living the rest of your life, then being thrown into the depths of hell for eternity better or worse, than telling the truth, being killed, and spending the rest of eternity with God in heaven?

You have to live with yourself. When you lie, you go through life with a small part of your conscience feeling guilty. It is like a disease, as you feel very much at dis-ease. This small guilt grows and grows, causing misery which many people hide. When you lie to others you begin to feel as though you must keep the lie going or they will think badly of you. In time the lie will grow and with it your misery.

As time passes you will begin to wish that you had never told the lie. If you admit to the lies and deceit, the world may think badly of you. Some will respect you for showing that you have the courage to admit that you were wrong, others would hate and despise you for the lies you told.

The ones who hate and despise you may not have done wrong in the eyes of the world, but in God’s eyes they have committed the greatest sin of all by not forgiving you (Mark 11: 26). When you tell the truth God is pleased with you and when you ask for forgiveness he forgives you (Isaiah 55: 7).

Summing it all up. Being honest isn’t easy. When a lie is made it grows. Like a disease, it will grow. Without treatment, it will thrive. To admit to a lie is its cure. Though a cure is given, some diseases get worse before they get better. With lies, to admit is to be humble. For the proud, to be humble is more anguish to their ego, than to live with a lie. But afterward comes the reward of honesty. The blessings of God. Therefore ‘Honesty is the Best Policy’.

Example #2

Without honesty, we would be termed characterless. Honesty is one of the building blocks of good character and character is what establishes who we are and what we are going to achieve. Honesty is the cornerstone of character. If one is found wanting in honesty, he will be found lacking in character as well.

Honesty is not always the easiest way out of a situation. However, for the brave-hearted who do not seek ways -out of situations, it is the only way to deal with a situation or a crisis. Often being honest can mean coming under the wrath of others. There might be the fear of a backlash but one must keep in mind that in the end truth always prevails and honesty is the best policy. It might not be the easiest thing: being honest, but it is the only thing to be.

Sometimes when faced with dire consequences one is inclined to be dishonest because it takes courage to be honest. While dishonesty may provide an easy exit out of a sticky situation, it is just a matter of time before the lies catch up. When that happens, you lose your credibility and people mistrust you forever. A politician who fails to deliver on the promises he has made the people during the election campaign loses the people’s faith and stands to lose the elections the next time around. It is difficult to trust someone you have lost faith in.

There are lies and then there are white lies. White lies are perceived as lies that are harmless hence people are often prone to using them. Being honest is difficult especially when you have something to lose like maybe a job, a promotion, the love and respect of a loved one. Taking the help of a white lie seems the easier way out. However, one lie leads to another, and, before long you are entangled in a web of lies that you find increasingly difficult to come out of. Honesty may be a difficult virtue to maintain but it is the only right thing to do.

However, situations don’t always call for brutal honesty. If a friend has bad breath, there is no reason to embarrass her with the truth by telling her she has bad breath. Situations like this, when the truth can hurt someone’s feelings call for prudence. A white lie said at this point to avoid hurting the friend’s feelings would not be in the best interests of the friend. The best way to deal with this situation would be to play down the brutality of the truth. Instead of outright saying,” hey your breath smells awful’ one could instead say “hey nothing a little mint won’t cure”.

The truth however hard to say must be adhered to always. In the long run, it is the best policy. Over a period of time, one will gain a reputation for being honest. And this will prove to be the building block of success. An honest person will be sought for his opinion. An honest man will always receive more responsibility at home and at work.

One must remember always that, “To err is human and to forgive divine”. So when you have erred coming clean is the only option. You may be punished for it, you might have to bear the consequences of it, but if you are honest you will earn the forgiveness and respect of those around you. Honesty is undoubtedly the best policy.

Example #3

Honesty is the best policy that is a famous saying said by Benjamin Franklin. Honesty is considered as the best tool for success in life and a famous person said it as the backbone of a successful relationship that has the capability to form a well-developed society. Without being honest in life, it becomes very tough to make real and trustworthy friendships or love bonds with anyone.

People who are generally used to telling truth can be able to build better relationships and thus a better world. Some people who do not have dare of telling truth to their dear ones, generally tell lie and face bad situations of being dishonest.

On the other hand, saying truth helps in strengthening our character and makes us strong. So, being honest (especially with family, friends, and other loved ones) helps us a lot in many ways all through life. Honesty is the most effective tool for protecting relationships.

Telling lies just to save the situation can make the condition worse. Saying truth always helps us to strengthen the character as well as bring confidence within us. There are many bad and good situations in life and I think almost all of us have been felt that telling truth to our dear ones gives us relief and happiness. So, according to this saying, being honest is really being a good human being in life.

Example #4

People nowadays are less honest with each other than our forefather, which make living in this modern life is not easy at all. The fact that people are not honest causes problems, some of which could hurt others badly. In my opinion, lying is not a good job to do. Thus I agree the statement honesty is the best policy.

If we do not lie, we will take advantage of it. Everyone will trust us. We will have good friends, a great job, and of course a good life to live. An example of this is my oldest sister who graduated from college. She never lies and she is the one that you can believe. Employers always want to have honest people to work for them. My sister has got a great job and she works hard too. Being honest in her job, she has got a quick promotion to higher positions. She has many friends who are ready to be with her and help her in need. My sister’s life is good in my opinion.

If we are not honest, others do not respect us. If we lie to someone for the first time, he or she may doubt at us next time. Not getting the belief, we easily fail to succeed in doing many things. Therefore, lying does not give us benefits. In the case that we are a good liar, we will.

However, finally, the truth may be found out. The next fact is that no one will trust us. Then come to serious problems. For example, when I ask make questions to my friend and get information which is not true. When I come to know the fact, I will not believe in her sayings for the next time. Unbelievable, she is of course a good friend at all. The friendship between her and me may become worse. I no longer respect my friend.

Dishonesty can put those who lie in difficult situations. When the truth does come out things get bad and problems to start to happen. For example, being dishonest in the workplace causes coworkers to be not fond of working with us. The liar gets trouble in fulfilling his or her job with the coworkers. The fact that a person does not perform well enough in a job can make him or her get fired.

Being honest give us comfortable feelings to our life. Liars often worry that the truth can be uncovered. They must remember things which are true and also other ones which are not. They must act so that others can not uncover the fact. In some situations, liars say the truth to these people but tell lies to the others. Therefore, they must bear in mine whom she told the truth about the problem and whom she did not. Living such a life is a hard job to do.

As can be seen, honesty is a good way to live. Knowing this, we will be a good person in others’ eyes. If we are honest, we are living in a realistic world of our own. Otherwise, we are living in our own play where we do not live our own life but act it.

Example #5

Introduction: Honesty means “being honest”, another meaning “truthfulness”, Policy means “course of action adopted by a government, business group, individual, etc.” So here the complete meaning of the essay title is “truthfulness course of action adopted by an individual is the best one”.

This “honesty” word is very much known to the whole world but has less impact on the majority of our society. Many social parameters are there which reflect honesty test, but in a real sense, there is no concrete method to test honesty.

If it would be then there would be no need for the judiciary in the world. The largest judicial organization is telling the story of dishonesty. Let us watch a few honesty images.

Value of Honesty: Highest complement for a person is a tag of honesty given by the society; if he is attached to this virtue. Today’s biggest gap in true sense is honesty; which does not strengthen properly in the school students.

I am not saying that this value is not taught in the schools, but want to draw attention to the school teaching system to the falling graph of these ethical elements in present society. The school students must be engraved with honest practices rather than paying strong attention to science subjects. It is because this is one of the biggest virtue of the growing youngsters; who will carry the nation on their feet.

The strong value of honesty will always be the biggest justification throughout the globe for the welfare of the whole of humanity. We all have to dictate the tremendous value of honesty to our kids from the very beginning in an easily understandable and practical way.

The true way of Solution of Human Problems: Many problems of human society is because of fewer numbers of honest people. Today’s people forgot the best policy of living. In the world political system, many wrong decisions are imposed wrongly because of self-centered thinking irrespective of an honest approach. In India recently Lokpal system was the biggest news headline. Lokpal is for protecting the human interest and to monitor government decisions.

I think this would not be required if honesty remains life in human souls. If honesty remained the best policy of the past time then today’s evils would never come to damage the social, economical, and functional balance of the society.

Now the whole world has to rethink to renovate and rebuild the honesty in the system by all possible means. Because no system can check every minister, clerk, etc to stop corruption and self-centered policymaking. It is only the honesty of these men which will stop them to do dishonest to others.

There should be a system to push honest people in the political system of all the nations. It is the only way to get a true solution to human problems. Advantage of Honesty: Honest people have a high degree of social acceptance. They are not confined to a particular town but become the renowned personality of the larger area. It is such a quality of human beings that uplift him at such a height that can not be achieved by working very hard in a normal way. I am giving one such example of an honest man.

He is non but the great Mahatma Gandhi of India; whose one word became the command for total Indians in history. This is because of his honesty as the best policy. Every man believed from his bottom of the heart that what Gandhi is telling is more than 100 percent correct. There are many such examples in the world. Its invisible advantage is infinite. I said invisible because it can only be perceived and can not be seen. Where and when we have to practice honesty:

  • At the time of paying for things at the shop if the shopkeeper is busy and forget to ask for payment.
  • In the queue, we have to be very honest to maintain it.
  • While checking examination copy of students.
  • While distributing something among family or in the equal group.
  • At our professional position.

Why people are Dishonest Today: It is noticed that the human ethical index is degrading day by day. It is because human beings have shifted from religious beliefs and become more scientific. But they don’t know that science only gives solutions to naturally available things. But the creator is God; who created everything and is watching everyone.

Honesty can only be judged in front of God and not in front of any law, system, anyone, etc. Many of us also forget that science is very limited it will not be able to discover unlimited nature. If one consumes the whole energy of the earth even then ten percent of sky distance is unreachable.

It is my own calculation and according to my belief. Another example of perceiving the creator is that a bird flying above thousand feet can look the very small grains and the bird can fly thousand of a kilometer from one country to another with its small 500g muscle. Don’t anybody think this while flying in flight which requires gallons of oil to cover only 1000 km? If anyone can understand this then he is with my view.

Conclusion: We have to realize the value of honesty otherwise social, economical balance will be lost. One day we have to answer our life before God. It is certain to happen otherwise no religion would exist on this earth. Much more can be written about “Honesty is the Best Policy Essay”. I will write a short point wise essay for grades 1 to 2. Keywords: honesty is the best policy story, honesty is the best policy quote, pictures on honesty, honesty in life.

Interesting Ideas

The way I look at it, I’m much too lazy to be a liar.

Lying takes a lot of effort, you have to remember what you said, imagine how that happened and if you are lying to a friend, creating a cover story.

Then, the worst thing, what if you get so good at it, you don’t know what’s the truth anymore.. (George Costanza for example)

I try to stick to the truth with the exception of really painful things where maturity isn’t there.

“Daddy, what happened to the fish”.

“We set him free to grow up and have a family sweetie..”

“Why did you flush him then”.

“How’s he supposed to get to the lake if I didn’t”

Between adults though, it takes maturity on both sides to be truthful.

You can want honesty from one person, then get ticked off if they are being truthful.

If you are hurt by the truth, then you have to talk about it.

I do think couples though should agree on ‘acceptable fibs’ though. up front.

eg, Ok dear, if you ask me if you look good in this and you don’t, how do you want me to handle it…

In general, comment on her appearance when you like it and you get fewer questions on it regularly. She knows if you don’t comment on it, you may not be crazy about it.

So, women, never ask about clothes or other women (do you think she’s prettier than me if we love you, then NO, SHE’S NOT)

Men, never EVER ask if it was good for her. If you don’t know, it wasn’t. Try harder next time.

Honesty is the best policy, but not all the time. There are many situations where lying is better like, if a person were dying and his/her love was not well or had a weak heart or something its better to tell them really slowly and not immediately. Honest people are always straight forward people and we don’t like straight forward people because they hurt our feelings. If you could save an innocents life by lying, lie away my friend.
