Moving To A New Country; What Makes People Do So
The love I feel for my country, the land I was born in, is something inexplicable. The feeling I get when my country’s name is pronounced is almost like the same feelings of butterflies in the stomach people feel when they are in love. So, why is it that I decided to desert my land and move to a new country? As in many other countries, the financial situation in my country was not very suitable for my family and me to live in, and as many other people do, my family and I also decided to move. In addition to this, my country, unfortunately, has a high rate of violence and this is another reason why my family and I decided to move. Also, the way the government was being run contributed to our decision. As previously stated, those reasons were some of the causes that in my case prompted me to leave the Dominican Republic; it was not because I did not like it, but because I was in search of a better life. Honestly, it was no ingratitude but a matter of survival.

It is really hard to go into a supermarket, seeing how high prices are, and for that reason not being able to buy everything needed. As part of a four people household, I can tell that that situation is not easy for me or any member of my family. Starting from zero was not easy, my parents had to work really hard, but our goal was to be in a different situation to not have to live through the same experience we lived back in our country.

The government in my country was not doing a good job at enforcing the rules, therefore; nobody respected the authority figures, causing chaos among the citizens.
In addition, the high violence rate in my country did not give my family and my peace of mind. I personally was a victim multiple times of violence and that definitely was a factor that made us move. One of those occasions where I was the victim of crime, was one night when I was walking with my cousin at night and two people assaulted us after they took all our belongings away from us, they left us on the street and we had to walk all the way back to the house. What that experience made us realize is that we need to be more careful at all times when we go back to visit. As in many other countries, the financial situation in my country was not very suitable for my family and me to live in, and as many other people do, my family and I also decided to move.
