British Scientist Charles Robert Darwin Essay

Charles Robert Darwin was born in 1809 and lived until 1882. He was a British scientist, who laid the foundation of modern evolutionary theory. He believed that all life was developed through natural selection. His work influenced modern sciences.

Darwin was born in England, on February 12, 1809, he was born into a rich family with five kids. After graduating from college at Shrewsbury in 1825. Darwin went to the University of Edinburgh to study medicine. In 1827 he dropped out of medical school and entered the University of Cambridge, in preparation for becoming a clergyman of the Church of England. After graduating from Cambridge in 1831. At the age of 22 Darwin was taken aboard the English survey ship HMS Beagle, he was going on a scientific expedition around the world

Darwin’s job as a naturalist aboard the Beagle gave him the opportunity to observe many geological formations found on different continents and islands along the way. Most geologists thought that all life was destroyed by a catastrophic event.

After returning to England in 1836, Darwin began recording his ideas about the changing of species in his famous notebooks. Darwin’s explanation for how organisms evolved was brought to attention after he read An Essay on the Principle of Population. It explained how human populations remain in balance.

Many people argued he couldn’t prove his hypothesis, while others approved of it. Darwin spent the rest of his life expanding on different aspects of problems raised in his first book. When he died in Downe, Kent, on April 19, 1882. he was honored by be buried in Westminster Abbey.
